WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2001

The Idaho Court of Appeals on Tuesday upheld the five-year prison sentence of an Aryan Nations member who has already been let out of jail for a confrontation he had with a Native family.

Jessie Warfield was the Aryan Nations security chief when the Keenan family was attacked in Idaho. Victoria and Jason Keenan were eventually awarded a $6.3 million judgment for a civil rights lawsuit they filed against the Aryan Nations, leading to its bankruptcy.

Warfield was let out of prison after 2-1/2 years because he said he abandoned his racist ways. He appealed his sentence because he said it took into account his formerly racist views and therefore infringed on his First Amendment rights.
