Overturning his own temporary injunction, a judge in Colombia said the government could continue fumigating Indian lands with an herbicide critics say is dangerous.

Indian leaders had pressed Judge Gilberto Reyes to stop the spraying, which he did on July 27. But since the Organization of Indian Peoples of the Colombian Amazon didn't provide the evidence he requested, he lifted his ban on Monday.

The decision is expected to be appealed.

The United States gives $1.3 million to help Colombia eradicate drug crops. Indian farmers grow poppy and coca plants for economic benefit.
