Chile's Pinochet ruled unfit for trial

TUESDAY, JULY 10, 2001 A court in Chile voted 2 to 1 to suspend legal proceedings against former Augusto Pinochet, ruling that the former General is mentally unfit to stand trial for human rights abuses. The decision is a blow to decades of legal work against Pinochet, 85, who finally returned to Chile in March 2000 after years of exile. He was subsequently arrested on a number of human rights charges. Get the Story:
