In The Hoop
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2002

Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues.

In The Hoop: The Scorecard
Is it Friday already? That means it's time for the weekly list of the movers and shakers in Indian Country and beyond.

The Winners
The Navajo Nation - Here's to your stand against Auntie Gale and crew! In The Hoop congratulates you on seeing the real truth. We can only hope the other tribes on the task force will wake up too.

BITAM - It appears you are still alive and well, kicking around somewhere within the Bush administration. We can only imagine what you will be called under the new "strategic plan."

Tom Slonaker / Paul Homan - Only when you get fired do you gain credibility and respect.

Individual Indians - No one listens to you! Except us!

The Losers
Gale Norton - Oh, quit your crying. You had it coming.

Patricia Zell - Is this what it takes to get you to return phone calls?

Connecticut - Having said that, your attack on Sen. Inouye is despicable. And your waste of taxpayer dollars on challenging the Pequot tribes approaches the absurd.

Seminole Nation - Will your woes ever be resolved? Or we will see another action by deputy Assistant Secretary Aurene Martin? Count on the latter before the former.

In The Middle
Tribal Task Force Members - Sure, Neal McCaleb promised to share information with you. But it's not going to be timely, some of it will hidden from you due to "attorney-client" privilege and the rest of it you won't like.

Five Civilized Tribes - So much for speedy passage of this "trust reform" bill. We imagine restricted allotments are falling out of trust as we speak.

Kennewick Man - Why hasn't the Bush administration appealed the recent decision to hand you over to scientists? They fight every other case.

Phil Hogen - Actually, you are a winner this week but we ran out of space up there.
