Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues.

In The Hoop: The Scorecard
Is it Friday already? That means it's time for the weekly list of the movers and shakers in Indian Country and beyond.

The Winners
Court Monitor Joseph S. Kieffer III - Your reports are finally being accepted, congratulations! We knew that $250-an-hour work shouldn't have gone to waste.

The 8th Quarterly Report - Thanks to U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth, you'll finally see the light of day. Will it truthfully report that Secretary of Interior Gale Norton didn't consult with tribes prior to launching her reorganization? Only 27 more days will tell.

EDS Corporation Reports - Tribal leaders are finally reading you! And realizing $3 million was spent to tell them something they already knew.

The Lower Brule Sioux Tribe - For helping the Bureau of Indian Affairs print and distribute general assistance checks. Elders and foster kids thank you!

The Losers
Secretary Gale Norton - You may have dropped your objections to the court monitor but that doesn't mean you'll be spared of contempt. You lost that chance over a month ago.

Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb - For trying to scare tribes into accepting BITAM. Shame on you.

National Park Service CIO Dom Nessi - How long will you last screwing up that job before being promoted to a higher one? A few more weeks of the Internet shutdown should suffice.

Kittens everywhere - You might go stinky without that 24-hour, 7-day clay mine operation. Thanks Reno-Sparks Indian Colony!

In The Middle
Former Assistant Secretary Kevin Gover - Testimony absolves you of Dom Nessi, sort of. But we know you still think he was the best, and only, CIO the BIA has ever had.

Deputy Secretary J. Steven Griles - You've taken charge of trust reform and you're sick of it already. Join the club.

www.doi.gov/indiantrust - You're about as useful as Dom Nessi's redesign of the BIA site. We'd write you out of existence but it's more entertaining watching you struggle.
