In The Hoop
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2001

Welcome to In The Hoop, Indianz.Com's occasional column about assorted Indian issues.

In The Hoop: The Scorecard
Is it Friday already? That means it's time for the weekly list of who were the movers and shakers in Indian Country and beyond.

The Winners
Glamis Gold - It turns out that gold mine of yours won't hurt sacred sites in California. Thanks Auntie Gale!

The To'hajiilee Navajo - For getting closer to the casino you've always dreamed of.

New York Tribes - For being able to profit off of September 11's terrorist attacks. In Gaming We Trust.

Eric Von Star - For winning Song of the Year at this year's NAMMYs. Troy says hi! :-)

The Losers
Interior Solicitor Bill Myers - At least we know you won't let the mining industry intimidate you.

Secretary of Interior Gale Norton - For being so easily replaceable. But look on the bright side, at least you could hang out with Sen. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska) more often. Oh wait, he's not going to jail. Well, not yet.

The Porcupine Caribou - You're inside ANWR, you're outside ANWR. What a difference a Republican administration makes.

The Lac La Ronge First Nation - For losing your land clam.

In The Middle
President Bush - You don't have anthrax. We get it.

Zuni Salt Lake - Will your waters be pumped away so that consumers in Arizona can have their power? Only Auntie Gale holds the answer.

Idaho Tribes - You thought you were in the clear over taxation. But Attorney General Al Lance thinks otherwise.

Russell Means - For dumping the Libertarian Party. When will you drop your objections to Navajo Nation jurisdiction?
