Federal and Alaska officials are hosting a public meeting on Wednesday for persons who worked on a nuclear project on Amchitka Island before Jan. 7, 1974.

The meeting is intended to gather information about workers who have developed cancer from being exposed to radiation at the site. The government detonated three nuclear bombs underground on the island, which is in the Aleutian Chain.

Alaska Natives are concerned that remnants of the blasts have affected the marine life on which they depend.

The meeting is being held in Anchorage.
