A group which writes information for the National Cancer Institute but doesn't make specific medical recommendations said on Wednesday it was changing its position on mammogram screening.

The P.D.Q. screening and prevention editorial board said it would rewrite information which encouraged women to receive mammograms. The board relied on studies which called into question whether mammograms helped reduce breast cancer.

The National Cancer Institute has recommended women in their 40's and older should receiver regular mammograms.
