WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2001 Congress on Tuesday dropped a provision to provide insurance coverage for mental illnesses. The provision had been supported by the Senate as introduced by Sens. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) and Paul Wellstone (D-Wisc.). It was tucked into a $123 spending bill for labor, health and education programs. Opposed by the insurance industry, a joint House-Senate committee voted 10 to 7 to drop the provision from the bill. Get the Story:
