MONDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2001 "An obituary lies on my desk. Six paragraphs sum up the life of 14-year-old Anne Marie Loans Arrow of Solen, N.D., who lived on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. An official said her death was a suicide. Anne Marie's obituary makes no mention of how her life ended, except to say she died Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck, N.D. She left this world the day before Lee Newspapers, including the Lincoln Journal Star, the Bismarck Tribune, the Missoulian and the Billings Gazette in Montana, inaugurated a series of stories on Native youth suicide that began Sunday, Nov. 25. The unnecessary deaths of young people prompted the series, something difficult to write. . ." Get the Story:
