TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2001 Alcohol related fatalities on highways throughout the nation increased for the first time in five years, reported the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday. Of the 41,812 highway sdeaths in 2000, 40 percent involved alcohol. This represented a slight increase of 38 percent involving alcohol the year prior. Federal law requires states to lower their blood alcohol limit to 0.08 or risk losing highway funds. Get the Story:
