Yakama seek dismissal of alcohol suit

SEPTEMBER 22, 2000 Saying claims against their ban on alcohol are "frivolous," the Yakama Nation of Washington on Wednesday asked the US District Court in Yakima to dismiss the state's lawsuit. Washington filed suit on Monday, claiming the tribe does not have the authority to enforce its new liquor ban on non-Indians and non-Indian owned businesses. The tribe wants the federal government to enforce the ban but the US Attorney's office has no yet issued an opinion on the matter. Get the Story:
