Mother sentenced for death of children

THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 2001 A Washington judge sentenced a woman to three and one-half years in prison for the accidental death of her three sons, members of the Spokane Tribe. The tribe had taken Jamesetta Shealeay's sons away from her twice and placed them with their father's relatives. The tribe also ordered the father, who is a tribal member, to stay away from his sons. Shealeay, 29, had violated a court order to receive the children unsupervised the night they died. She left them at home to go out and they died in a fire in January 2000. Five years prior, Shealeay's 10-week-old twin girls died of hyperthermia. Their deaths were ruled accidental. Get the Story:
