Elders gather for aging conference

AUGUST 24, 2000 About 2,000 elders gathered for the National Indian Council on Aging conference held in Duluth, Minnesota. William Burke, Umatilla, said the United States is losing values of peace, love and health. Burke is the Treasurer of the Council. Regis Pecos, Cochiti Pueblo of New Mexico, said all Indian youth face similar challenges such as alcohol and drug abuse. Pecos himself has had troubles with alcohol, having lost his New Mexico state drivers license and appeared in tribal court for alcohol-related offenses. Get the Story:
