The House Appropriations Committee on Tuesday rejected President's Bush attempt to eliminate contraceptive health care coverage for 1.2 million female employees of the federal government.

Bush wanted to cut the coverage, which was instituted in 1998. It requires the 250 health care plans which service government employees to provide five types of birth control for women.

Yesterday's vote was supported by 28 Democrats and 12 Republicans on the committee. The measure is part of a spending bill for the Treasury and Postal departments and other federal agencies.
