Carpal tunnel syndrome cause disputed

JUNE 12, 2001

Research published in Monday's issue of Neurology disputes the repeated use of computer keyboards as a cause of carpal tunnel syndrome.

If verified, the study's results -- which came as a surprise to researchers -- would strike a blow to a long-held concern about continued use of keyboards in the workplace.

The study was conducted at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. An ergonomics researcher at the University of California-San Francisco criticized the study.
