Tobacco firms agree to $700M payment

Three tobacco companies on Monday agreed to pay $700 million in health claims to smokers regardless if they lose their appeal to a $145 billion class action lawsuit in Florida.

The payment will go to selected smokers who have been represented in the case. The case has involved an estimated 300,000 to 700,000 smokers.
