Artists want road closed to traffic

MAY 29, 2001 Indian artists who sell their goods in the plaza of New Mexico's capitol city want a road closed off in front of the Palace of the Governors to protect their health. The Santa Fe City Council proposed such a closure earlier this year but it has run into opposition from local Hispanics who say it limits their appreciation of the city. Mavis Garcia, chairwoman of the Native American Vendors Program, says the exhaust coming from the traffic leads to headaches for Indian artists, especially older ones. Get the Story:
