MAY 24, 2000 The New Mexico Council for Problem Gambling said gambling poses a serious health risk for women in the state, who often seek out help for gambling problems through the Council's help line. The Council reports that about 11 percent of callers in the first quarter of 2000 said they had been victims of domestic abuse, compared to 6 percent in the last quarter of 1999. They also said that a third of the callers in 2000 reported some kind of alcohol or drug dependency, compared to 24 percent in late 1999. Get the Story:
