MAY 22, 2000 Tribes in South Dakota are increasingly turning to the federal government, rather than the state, to help them develop elder health care programs. The Rosebud Sioux Tribe bought its own nursing home near their reservation. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe has plans to build their own elderly care "village." Funding and programs for elders withing the Indian Health Service is also a priority. The IHS currently has no elderly care program. A current bill in Congress proposes to reauthorize the agency to include elder care. Get the Story:
