Council opposes mining project

The Kivalina tribal council is opposed to expansion of a mining port, saying it will disturb sea mammals and hurt their subsistence hunts. The council took out an ad to express opposition.

NANA Regional Corporation of Kotzebue, the Alaska Native corporation which owns the land, and the mining company, Cominco Alaska, say its too early to tell if the project will have an impact.
