DECEMBER 1, 2000 The Bayer Corporation on Thursday asked for a hearing to challenge a proposed ban on animal antibiotics that the Food and Drug Administration says can lead to human resistance to life-saving drugs. Bayer makes a product called Baytril. Baytril is an antibiotic used to treat chickens and belongs to a class of drugs called fluoroquinolones. But the FDA says some humans who eat chickens who have been treated with such drugs can cause them to resist treatment. The FDA proposed the ban in October. Get the Story:
