Traditional diet said key to life

NOVEMBER 3, 2000 Researchers say the traditional diet of residents in a Japanese village is the key to their longetivity and good health. Unlike the rest of Japan, the diet of villagers in Yuzuri Hara consists of potatoes and starches. One doctor says these foods help stimulate the development of hyaluronic acid, leading to younger looking and healthier people. The doctor also says that since Western style foods have shown up in the village, heart disease has doubled. Residents who move away from the village or who consume non-traditional foods tend to die before their parents, whose ages reach into the 90s and 100s. Get the Story:
