NOVEMBER 30, 2000

Herbal remedies are just one of the many tools being used to fight diabetes in Indian Country, as participants in this week's War on Diabetes conference in Omaha, Nebraska are finding out.

Terry Maresca, a Mohawk doctor, spoke at the conference on Wednesday on the use of herbal remedies to treat diabetes. She said traditional healing can help fight the disease.

Participants in the symposium will travel to the Winnebago Reservation today to visit the tribe's diabetes wellness center.
