WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2001 The letter sent to Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle's (D-S.D.) office on Monday was potent enought to have caused a death, according to government officials. And according to Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn.), several members of Daschle's staff have tested positive for exposure to anthrax. Media sources say 20 or more have been affected. The Daschle letter has caused a heightened state of alert due to the ongoing anthrax cases discovered in New York and Florida. Numerous Senate staff have been tested for anthrax -- the results are expected due tomorrow. The FBI has posted images of the letters sent to Daschle and to the NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw, whose aide contracted a less potent, skin version of anthrax. The FBI says the letters bear similarities and hopes the public might be able to track down their source or sources. Due to the fears, the FBI is warning that persons who fake anthrax threats will be prosecuted. Yesterday, a Connecticut man was indicted for a hoax. The seven-month-old baby that contracted anthrax is said to be doing well. More on Anthrax:
