The state of Utah's Crime Victim Reparations is considering paying for tribal ceremonies when used by American Indian victims of crime.

The state would pay whomever leads the ceremony, it appears. New Mexico, home to 19 Pueblos and Navajo and Apache tribes, and Arizona, home to more than a dozen tribes, already do the same.

According to Arizona, paying traditional healers costs less in the long run. A healer may charge more for one ceremony but unlike Western practitioners, they don't require regular meetings.
