WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11, 2002 The following documents of note were published in today's Federal Register. Schaghticoke Tribal Nation
The Bureau of Indian Affairs publishes notice that the Assistant Secretary -- Indian Affairs proposes to decline to acknowledge that the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation (STN) exists as an Indian tribe within the meaning of Federal law. The tribe's petition for federal acknowledgment was evaluated under a court-ordered timeline but followed the evaluation guidelines established by BIA regulation. According to the notice, the tribe failed to meet two out of seven mandatory criteria. Get the Notice:
