Churches to apologize for abuse
SEPTEMBER 5, 2000

The Anglican, Catholic, Presbyterian, and United Churches will hold a public ceremony today in St. John's, Newfoundland, and apologize for centuries of abuse by officials who were charged with educating the country's aboriginal children.

Churches throughout the country are losing the battle in thousands of lawsuits filed against them for allegations of sexual, physical, and mental abuse.
