SEPTEMBER 12, 2000

Police in Quebec have arrested seven Algonquin protesters, including a 60-year-old grandmother who supports herself by trapping and hunting, who have been blocking logging roads in the province.

The protesters are trying to protect land they say is unceded from being logged by a forestry company. The company has a lease with an Algoquin band, but the protesters say the permits issued are illegal.
