MAY 22, 2000 The Department of Fisheries and Oceans seized more lobster traps in Miramichi Bay, New Brunswick this weekend. Citing treaty rights, the Burnt Church Mi'kmaq continue to issue their own tags under their own fisheries program. The goverment contends they are not legal and the fishermen need DFO tags. Recent efforts to come to an agreement have failed, but so far there have only been verbal confrontations between fisherman and the DFO. The lobster season ends in June. Related Stories:
