FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2001

A coalition of 10 conservation organizations has asked the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, an agency of the Department of Interior, to list the black-tailed prairie dog as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

The groups say the prairie dog is threatened on a number of fronts, including destruction of habitat and recreational shooting. The groups conducted a multi-state study which they said supports their claims.
