Judge approves protection of sacred site

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21, 2001 A federal judge has refused to overturn a preservation plan for the Medicine Wheel National Historic Landmark, considered sacred by a number of tribes. A timber company sued the U.S. Forest Service for consulting with tribes to come up with a plan to protect the site. Wyoming Sawmills claimed it was prevented from logging because roads in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming were closed off to protect the Medicine Wheel. The judge said the company had alternate routes to the timber it seeks to harvest. Get the Story:
