Secretary of Interior Gale Norton on Wednesday said her Inspector General will conduct an investigation into two U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologists who participated in a nationwide lynx study.

Along with other federal and state employees, the two biologists planted fur from a captive lynx into a study group. They said they were trying to make sure the lab enlisted to test the samples was doing a good job.

Norton's biologists have been taken off the project. Some members of Congress want them fired.

The U.S. Forest Service, part of the Department of Agriculture, is said to announce its own probe.
