Mont. wants opinions on water compact

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2001 The Montana Reserved Water Rights Compact Commission is asking for public opinion on a proposed water compact between the state and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. The commission says only one entity has commented on the proposal, which is in its early stages. The plan does call for the tribes to assume jurisdiction of all water rights on the Flathead Reservation. Once a draft agreement is composed, public meetings will be held. Get the Story:
