FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2001

A controversial kitty litter mine has received a permit from the state of Nevada. Opponents vow to keep fighting the proposal.

Among those who object are the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony and the Hungry Valley Indian Colony. Along with environmentalists, the tribes say the mine will poison the environment.

Chicago-based Oil-Dri plans on mining nearly seven million tons of clay and using it to make kitty litter 24-hours a day.
