FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2001

Safety issues are threatening the health of workers and the environment at Alaska's biggest oil field, an internal review by the company that runs the project has found.

According to the report by BP Exploration, there are numerous problems that make the operation unsafe. The company claims, however, it is correcting the problems and no employee is at risk.

The Prudhoe Bay operation has been used to justify drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
