MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2001

During a campaign visit to Alaska, Sen. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska) on Saturday said he doesn't have enough votes to break a Democratic filibuster over drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

But that won't stop him and his allies from trying to pass legislation to begin oil and gas development in the refuge. He said he will try to attach a pro-drilling amendment to an economic stimulus bill before the year ends.

Murkowski is running for governor of Alaska.
