Republicans to get ANWR vote

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 2001

Bickering over key legislative issues continued in the Senate on Thursday, with Republicans winning the chance to vote on an energy bill that includes provisions to open up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling.

A vote on the package, which has passed the House, is scheduled for Monday. Due to a Democrat filibuster, however, 60 votes are needed to clear it.

Republicans also will get to vote on a human cloning ban.

Majority Leader Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) had said he wouldn't bring up energy until next year.
