Members and officials of Picuris Pueblo in northern New Mexico held a road block of a mica mine located on sacred land last Friday.

Joined by environmentalists, the group succeeded in turning away two trucks from the site. The tribe has opposed a 20-year, 700-acre expansion of the mine but has been turned down by the state court system.

Gov. Clarence Chile said the tribe will now fight the expansion in federal court.
