Alaska wants radiation tests

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2001 The state of Alaska is asking the Department of Energy to test for radiation contamination on and around Amchitka Island to ensure Alaska Natives who fish and hunt in the area aren't threatened. The island was used to explode atomic devices from 1965 to 1971. The state says the government hasn't tested for radiation since the 1970s. Get the Story:
