THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2001 Kake Tribal Corp. is seeking to build a solid-waste incinerator on its land on Kupreanof Island. The corporation hopes the incinerator will be able to handle local waste needs. An official said most regional communities barge their trash to Washington or Oregon and some operate local dumps. The incinerator would convert 100 tons of trash per day into energy. Waste incinerators have been linked to the increase of dioxins, chemicals which can cause health problems in humans.
