THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2001 Mike Parker, the nominee to head the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, told a Senate committee on Tuesday he would recommend a new management plan for the Missouri River if confirmed for the position. Parker, a former congressman, said he would recommend a plan by next May. The issue of the flows is controversial to a number of states and environmentalists. Tribal lands and remains have been affected by dams on the river. Parker was approved by the Environment and Public Works Committee on Tuesday. His nomination now goes to the full Senate floor.
