SEPTEMBER 15, 2000 The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes in Montana are seeking control of all water rights on the Flathead Reservation. The tribes are negotiating with the state regarding a water rights compact. Their announcement came at a second meeting they had with the state. The state had previously negotiated a compact with the Crow Tribe. The new administration appears to have invalidated that compact. The state is also negotiating a compact with the tribes on the Fort Belknap Reservation. Get the Story:
