Alaska Natives vow to protect fishery

SEPTEMBER 11, 2000 Alaska Natives say they will do anything to protect their sockeye fishery in the Eastern Aleutian islands, despite opposition to the fishery by Governor Tony Knowles and others. Alaska Natives say their catch has already dropped by 60 percent. But Knowles and others want fishing in Area M limited, because they say it ends up lowering the supply of salmon to other areas of the state. Get the Story:
