Indian and environmental groups are protesting a mine they say is polluting the only lake in Honduras.

The Honduran government on Tuesday began an investigation of the mine, operated by a Candian company. Federal prosecutors have asked a court to shut it down and arrest the operator.

Opponents want the government to develop tougher environmental regulations and ban the use of cyanide in mines. They say fish have become unfit for human consumption due to high levels of lead and cyanide.
