Coeur d'Alene tribal chairman and Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) are pushing Congress to authorize $250 million for the clean-up of the Coeur d'Alene basin in Idaho.

Cleanup of the basin could cost as much as $3 billion. Mining companies have polluted the area for more than a century.

The United States and the tribe are suing two companies to help clean up the site.

The site is under consideration for the Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund list. Republican lawmakers and officials oppose a listing.
