MONDAY, JULY 9, 2001 Located on the Chukchi Sea in the Arctic Circle, the Eskimo village of Shishmaref may disappear in decades due to erosion, say scientists. The 600-member village has seen the coastline shrink in recent years. Some attribute it to global warming while others, like Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), say it is the result of regular changes in ocean temperatures. Whatever the cause, village leaders say they may have to relocate altogether. Already, some homes have been moved while others have fallen into the sea. Get the Story:
