Governor Tony Knowles on Thursday asked the Supreme Court for a 60-day extension on the landmark Katie John subsistence case.

The delay has to be approved by the Court. To appeal the case, the state would have to submit a petition to the Court.

Alaska Natives have been urging Knowles not to appeal.

In the meantime, Knowles will hold a summit on to address the general issue of subsistence fishing.
