Tribes throughout Indian Country are restoring bison to their lands. Bison restoration, bison handling, and the traditional role of bison were among some of the focuses at the "Restoring Natural Systems" conference, held last week on the Lower Brule Sioux reservation in South Dakota.

Wolf Smoke spoke on the psychology of the buffalo. Judi Wood, bison project coordinator for the Lower Brule tribe, spoke on stress-free handling.

The Inter-Tribal Bison Cooperative and the Northern Plains Bison Education Network sponsored the three-day event.
