Salmon delay Muckleshoot amphitheatre

The Muckleshoot Tribe's White River ampitheatre has been delayed by potential negative impact on the chinook salmon. Both the National Marine Fisheries Service, responsible for the protection of the chinook salmon, and US Fish and Wildlife Service, responsible for the protection of the Bull Trout, another endagered species in the area, have raised questions about the project.

The tribe halted construction on the 20,000 seat amphitheatre about two years ago and hoped that they could open the complex next spring. But the two federal agencies are undergoing a "formal review" of the project that places the project effectively on hold for an indeterminate period of time.

A draft environmental-impact statement (EIS) issued last year had said the amphitheater would cause "no significant unavoidable adverse impacts" on the local community, many of whom have long protested the project.
